The Path Least Traveled

I decided to go into a little side road to get some unique signs that are probably rarely seen.

I started on Fort Lowell to get this colorful Mexican Restaurant. Las Cazuelitas, server of authentic mexican and sea food.

This is a plumbing store called "Together" I think. I couldn't exactly tell. I'm not sure if the place is still in business.

This is a sign for a bar. You'll notice the clouds on the horizon. We got rain last night at 4am. It's starting to rain!

North Oracle and Orange Grove

Got a few more pictures from the north west side of town. You'll notice something in a few of these pictures: Clouds. Hopefully the monsoon season should be picking up soon.

You can see a few of these fireworks stands across Tucson. They're not legal to light them off in city limits, but you can buy them in city limits. They guys in the shop thought I was Australian because of my "accent" I don't know where that came from, never heard any one say that. It's especially strange because I've never been to Australia. Although I did know a student studying abroad from Australia last year.

This is a car wash right beside the fireworks stand. Not much to note aside from its crippling mundaneness.

This is the first of my North Oracle and Orange Grove signs. This one is especially unique because it is spherical. Also note the developing clouds in the back ground.

I took a lot of signs in the same plaza as this slot machine sign, but this was the one that stood out the most.

Another Eegee's sign. It's strange that all the signs for Eegee's are so different across different restaurants. I suppose the franchise doesn't have a very consistent style.

For this sign I had to Jay-walk to get to. There's been a lot of jay walking in this project.

A few more

It's been a while since I posted some pictures. So here's a few.

ALL CAPS, BOLD LETTERS.

This is perhaps the sketchiest sign I've taken so far, cracking paint, discolored sign, faded letters. This sign has it all.

Signs on I-10

Got some signs off of I-10 and Miracle Mile.

This was a completely closed down mechanic shop right beside the Triple-T.

Here is the Triple T, Tucson Truck Terminal, Tucson land mark and truck stop.

Golden pin lanes, right on Miracle Mile.

More Fort Lowell Signs

I got some more signs off of Fort Lowell today.

This sign just cracked me up, I had to take a picture of it.

This is notable because it almost looks like someone's house. But no, it's a chiropractor's office.

I don't normally do human subjects, but I absolutely had to make an exception for this gentleman. Poor guy had to stand out in a hot windy Arizona day with a sign for six hours. I'm sure you could make some sort of statement about advertisement as it exists today with this picture.

And this is a religious goods store. I really like how pink it is.

I'm getting creative with the angles now.

One Sketchy store and an apartment sign

Today I just got two signs.

I loved this sign. I had to pull over to get it. The store owner was very angry that I parked in his lot and didn't buy anything (he had a very small parking lot). I wasn't there for five minutes, I just wanted his sign.

And this is a sign for a small single story apartment complex. There's not much to distinguish it except that it is exceedingly ordinary.

Some signs off of Speedway

I got some signs off of Speedway today. Not many though, my camera ran out of battery while I was taking pictures.

This is a plain looking club house down a side street off of Speedway. If you weren't running around aimlessly, you would never find it.

LENSE FLARE! This is another closed down store. One thing I've noticed from doing this blog is how many closed down stores we have in this town.

This sign was in the middle a vacant lot near the Quebedeaux dealership, hence there is nothing standing anywhere near the sign which allowed me to zoom out quite a bit and only get the sign in the frame.

Another car dealership on Speedway. I actually took this sign from many different angles. Two of which look so similar I couldn't help turning it into a little animation.

After I took two pictures from two different angles that almost exactly lined up, I couldn't help but make this video, I thought it was pretty catchy, maybe I should go into marketing.

Some Signs near Fort Lowell and Drachman

Most of these signs I took were off of Fort Lowell.

This is a fairly generic looking car dealership sign right next to where I work.

This is a feed store right near where I work. I'm pretty sure the horse on top was stolen a few years ago as part of an April fools joke, it was returned a few days after.

This is the sign the company where I'm doing my internship. Mintec makers of MineSight.

Another sign off of Fort Lowell. I liked the graphic design of the sign.

This is a sign of a little apartment complex. The sign is so low off the ground I don't think you would be able to see it on the road.

A small car wash! Right after I took this picture, a woman walked out, stared at me, then she walked away. I didn't know what to say, but then again she was too far away to actually say anything.

This sign was on Drachman, when I saw it I knew it had to be on this blog. I pulled over when I saw it and snanped a few pictures right as the sun was going down. Got it just in time. Although, with the neon lights, I'm sure it looks good at night too.

June 13th post

Because I was unable to get to my computer on Monday, I'm making this post today.

I loved this little pay day loans place. There were so many things that characterized it that I had to get two pictures of it. Everything about it was so sketchy. I love how they covered up "pay day" on the sign.

Here's the front of the store. I like how the 'M' isn't lit up so that if you were to read it at a distance at night, you would read "Check Ate"

Here's the Good will sign on 4th ave. It was dark enough so that all you could see was the sign.

And here's O'malleys. Nice sign, decaying surroundings.

Day Four

Today, got two pics along Broadway.

I got this old Hollywood Video store, a victim of Internet video like its counterpart Blockbuster which is rapidly loosing stores.

This was a quaint little building I found. Broadway Bridge looks like the name of one of those fake businesses on those King of the Hill Adult Swim inserts.

Part of Campbell

Today I went down Campell, one of the more colorful streets of Tucson. There's a wealth of signage there, too much for one day.

Another Lucky Wishbone sign, much more minimalist than the one I got a few days ago.

Here we have a sun-bleached Campbell sign, I especially like the graphic design that went into it.

This is a quaint little coin wash store sign.

This sign is perhaps the crown jewel of Campbell. It's highly stylized and very campy and one of the main reasons why I decided to do this.

For a store called "Artists At Work" I would expect a sign that was a little more "Artistic," or at-least have a sign that didn't used to say "Apartment Locators"

Here is Bookmans, not much to say about it except they have a decent sign.
